The spelling is slightly different but I am aware that over the centuries the spelling of the name has changed many times.
I believe my ancestors were Norman and came from Normandy at
the time of William the Conqueror. There are records of Ottle's
having been involved with the setting up/building of Ludlow Castle
in Shropshire and our 'family seat' is an Elizabethan half-timbered
mansion at Pitchford in the same county. Sadly the house is no
longer in the family as it was gambled and lost at the end of
the last century.
There is a chapel in the grounds which the present owners have
said we may visit whenever we like, and on one occasion in the
late 70's I was invited into the house. It is really very beautiful
and there are many portrait paintings of familiy members. The
owner commented that she had no doubt we were who we claimed to
be, as she could recognise the family characteristics from the
paintings.
One of my uncles, now deceased, researched the family tree. I
have not seen his work but I shall endeavour to find out if it
still exists and maybe pass on the info if you like.
Regards
Stephen Ottley
Hello
I live in a small village in Shropshire 2 miles away from the
village I believe my family took residence in 1473 (15th century)
The Family Hall - Pitchford Hall - Was owned by the Ottley family
and there decedents until 1993 - So much history here the name
Ottley crops up everywhere, Roads, Pubs, There are grave stones
dating back to the 15th century - I believe Adam Ottley was the
Sheriff of Shropshire and the Marches in 1580 - get back to me
if you are interested
Bye

Hello distant cousin!
I am very interested in genealogy of the Ottleys (Otteles). The Ottleys in my lineage came from Alphanstone, England. Go to http://ottley.kinfolk.org/ to find out more about the Ottleys in England. It looks like the site is under construction but should give you the information you are looking for. The author of that website is Richard B. Pyne who has compiled the information on the Ottleys as well as other family's roots.
I hope this helps.
